144/256 = 56.25%
A value like 144/256, or 56.25%, can show up when a little more than half of something is complete. For example, a student might finish 144 out of 256 questions, or a phone battery might be a bit over half charged.
To picture it quickly, imagine a bar divided into four equal parts. This amount is slightly more than two of those four parts, since 50% would be exactly half and 56.25% is 6.25 percentage points higher.
A common mistake is to call 56.25% “about 60%” and forget that the difference may matter. It is also easy to assume that 144/256 cannot be simplified just because both numbers are fairly large, even though the fraction represents a clear little-over-half value.
