15/48 = 31.25%
A value like 15/48, or 31.25%, can show up when tracking progress, attendance, or survey results. For example, if 15 out of 48 students bring lunch from home, about one-third of the group does so.
To picture it quickly, think of 31.25% as a little less than one-third. On a 48-square grid, shade 15 squares, or imagine dividing a group into three nearly equal parts and choosing one part.
A common mistake is to call 31.25% “about 30%” and forget that the exact value is slightly higher. It can also be confused with 15%, since people may focus on the numerator without considering the total of 48.
