A value of 15/50, or 30%, might show up in everyday life as a discount, a test score, or the share of a group that prefers a certain choice. For example, if 15 out of 50 students choose pizza, that’s 30% of the class.
A quick way to picture 30% is to think of about three parts out of ten, or just under one-third. For a group of 50, 15 is easy to imagine as 10 plus 5.
One common mix-up is treating 30% as the same as 30 percentage points. A change from 20% to 30% is an increase of 10 percentage points, not a 10% increase.
