19/95 = 20%
A value like 19/95, or 20%, can show up when one-fifth of a group has a certain feature. For example, it could describe 19 students out of 95 choosing a particular lunch, survey respondents supporting an idea, or products in a store being discounted.
To picture 20% quickly, imagine five equal sections with one section shaded. It is also close to “about one out of every five,” which makes it easy to estimate in a crowd or large group.
A common mistake is thinking 20% means 20 out of 100 items only. It can describe the same portion of any-sized group, so 19 out of 95 represents the same share even though neither number is 100.
