A value like 35% might show up in everyday life as a discount, a battery level, or the share of students who chose a certain option in a survey. It tells you that a little more than one-third of the whole is involved.
To picture 35%, imagine dividing something into ten equal parts and shading about three and a half of them. It’s close to one-third, but a little larger; one-third is about 33%.
A common point of confusion is treating 35% as though it means 35 out of 60. Percentages are always out of 100, so the whole amount you’re comparing against matters.
