22/40 = 55%
A value like 22/40, or 55%, could describe how many people in a group chose a certain option in a survey. It might also show the share of questions someone answered correctly on a 40-question quiz.
To picture it quickly, imagine 40 equal sections with just over half shaded. It’s a little more than an even split, but not close to two-thirds.
A common mix-up is to think 22/40 means 22%, because the numerator is 22. The denominator matters too: it tells you the whole group has 40 parts.
