To picture 80% quickly, imagine 8 out of 10 equal parts filled in, with 2 parts left empty. That’s a little less than the whole amount, but clearly more than three-quarters.
One common point of confusion is thinking that 80% means 80 out of 100 items, no matter the situation. It means four-fifths of the total, so the actual number of items depends on how many there are altogether.
