A value like 30% can show up in everyday life when a store advertises a discount, a weather forecast gives the chance of rain, or a survey reports how many people chose an option. It tells you that the amount is a noticeable part of the whole, but still less than half.
To picture it quickly, think of a group of 10 equal parts: about 3 of them make up this share. You can also imagine a little less than one-third, since one-third is about 33%.
A common confusion is treating 30% as the same as 30 percentage points. For example, if a score rises from 40% to 70%, it has gone up by 30 percentage points, not by 30% of its original value.
