4/8 = 50%
A value of 4/8, or 50%, shows up whenever something is split evenly into two parts. For example, you might finish half of a pizza, answer half of a quiz correctly, or have 4 of 8 players arrive for practice.
You can picture 4/8 quickly by imagining a shape divided into 8 equal sections with 4 shaded. Since the shaded and unshaded parts are the same size, it is easy to recognize the value as one-half.
A common mistake is thinking that 4/8 is less than one-half because 4 is smaller than 8. The numbers must be considered as a pair: 4 out of 8 equal parts fills exactly half of the whole.
