A value of 75% can show up in everyday life, such as when three out of four questions on a quiz are correct or when a store marks an item down by a quarter. It’s also a useful way to describe progress, like finishing most of a book or completing nearly all of a chore list.
To picture 75%, imagine a square split into four equal parts, with three parts shaded. It’s a little less than the whole, but clearly more than half.
One common mix-up is thinking that 75% off means paying 75% of the original price. It actually means the discount is 75%, so the amount left to pay is much smaller.
