8/16 = 50%
A value like 8/16, or 50%, shows up when half of something is used, filled, or completed. You might see it on a battery meter, in a classroom poll, or on a progress bar that is halfway done.
To picture it quickly, imagine a pizza split into two equal halves, or a group of 16 items with 8 shaded. If something looks about halfway full, it’s roughly 50%.
One common point of confusion is thinking that 50% always means half of the same amount. It means half of whatever total you’re considering, so half of 16 items is different in size from half of 100 items.
