A value like 81/90, or 90%, shows up when most of something is complete or successful. For example, a student might answer 81 out of 90 questions correctly, or a phone battery might be at about 90% charge.
You can picture 90% as nine out of every ten parts. It is also easy to estimate as “almost all,” with only about one-tenth missing.
A common mistake is thinking 90% means the same thing as 90 points or 90 items. The percent describes a portion of a total, so its meaning depends on what the whole amount is.
