You can picture 34% as a little more than one out of every three items. On a 100-square grid, shade about a third of the squares, or imagine dividing a group of 50 into three nearly equal sections and selecting slightly more than one section.
A common mistake is thinking 34% means 34 out of 50 instead of 34 out of 100. It is also easy to confuse 17/50 with 17%, even though the fraction represents a much larger share.
