A value of 3/8, or 37.5%, might describe how much of a pizza is left after people share some, or how full a water bottle is. It can also show up in a survey when a little more than one-third of people choose an option.
To picture 3/8, imagine dividing something into eight equal parts and shading three of them. It’s a bit less than half, so you can estimate it as just under 40%.
One common mix-up is thinking 3/8 is close to one-half just because both fractions have small numbers. But 3/8 is noticeably less: half would cover four of the eight equal parts.
