To picture it, imagine dividing a whole into four equal parts and shading slightly less than one part. Since a quarter is 25%, 22.5% is close to—but a bit below—that mark.
One common point of confusion is treating 22.5% as 22.5 out of 10 instead of 22.5 out of 100. It also isn’t exactly one quarter, even though the two values are fairly close.
